CRISPR originated as a mechanism bacteria used to destroy invading viruses. Eventually scientist realized this mechanism could be used in all organisms as a means of genetic engineering. Today, CRISPR is leading the revolution gene therapy in the science world. From curing diseases to creating biofuel to protecting wildlife, CRISPR is leading the path to a better future. Although the technology is new and much research is necessary before we can make any life changing effects, the advancement of CRISPR is well on its way and is coming fast. However, the possibility of such drastic changes also bring up ethical issues about and impact gene therapy could have on future generations and the environment. Only one thing is for sure when it comes to the future of genetic engineering: Things will never be the same.
